Geothermal energy
Geothermal energy passes from the earth’s molten core to the surface and can be used directly for heating or to produce electricity. It is a very interesting form of energy as it’s available all day, every day regardless of season, weather or climatic conditions. This source of energy is also infinite; in principle the world’s entire energy needs could be covered by the reserves in storage. In 2006 around €580 million was invested in making greater use of geothermal energy in Germany. We are especially seeing greater use being made of geothermal energy very close to the earth’s surface through the use of ground source heat pumps.
