Welcome to the age of cleantech!
Over the next few decades, the world faces the challenge of effectively protecting its natural resources while safeguarding and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.
The key to achieving this is for industries to deploy procedures that have lower emissions and use fewer resources, especially when it comes to generating and storing energy. The term ‘cleantech’ has become an established umbrella term for these technologies.
Over the last few years the cleantech market has developed at breathtaking speed and is now one of the key industries of the future. And Germany is at the forefront of this trend, as a leading exporter of technology within the global cleantech industry and as one of the three most important markets in the sector, a position it shares with Japan and the US. According to the German Wind Energy Association 70 000 people already work in the German wind industry alone. The German solar industry is also faring well; the German Solar Association expects the number of people working in the industry to rise by 400 percent over the next six years and investment in research and development to increase tenfold.
But despite these positive trends, the long-term success of the German cleantech sector isn’t guaranteed: favourable political conditions, a positive climate within society, optimum utilisation of know-how at home and abroad and efficient global sales and communication strategies are essential to the long-term positive development of the industry.
